Rachel Williams

Name: Rachel Williams

Position: 6-8 Band Director & Music Teacher
Years at MAMS: This is my 4th year!rachel

Years in Education: 5 years

What is the strangest job that you’ve ever had?
In high school, I became a personal shopping assistant for five year olds to shop for their parents during the holidays at our school’s craft fair.

If you could switch jobs with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I would switch jobs with a chef at Green Elephant so I could make their delicious food whenever I wanted it (and hopefully would never get sick of it).

If you had some free time, how would you spend it? OR How do you spend your summer vacations?
I spend my free time playing tennis, cooking, hanging out with my two cats, playing Animal Crossing, and watching Friends.

What does a typical day at MAMS look like for you?
Normally, my teaching day consists of teaching full band and sectionals for each instrument during the day. After school, we usually have some sort of music playing going on in the band room, like jazz band rehearsal, wind ensemble, or audition practice. This year, I am teaching a brand new class, General Music, where we cover a diverse range of topics, such as composition, performance, theory, notation, and history.

What do you love about middle school?
I love middle school because it is such a crucial age for kids to try new things and figure out what they’re passionate about. Because of my middle school band director, I went from hating band to loving band and became a band teacher, hoping to inspire and support others like she inspired and supported me.
