Interactive Fiction Stories from MAMS Writers
In the Spring Semester of 2020, a group of motivated writers at Mt. Ararat Middle School were invited to take part in a writing workshop involving Interactive Fiction. Sponsored by the Telling Room, the Interactive Fiction workshop combined the creative element of writing with the technical aspects of simple coding – in this case using the open source program Twine – to create stories that would allow readers to walk their own path, to experience alternative narratives, or interact with sound and images. It encouraged students to think about the different ways a story can develop, the many turns characters can take, and how to craft an experience that excites readers to jump in again and again.
