megan    What is the strangest job that you've ever had?
Not sure how "strange" this is...but I used to work as a bridal consultant at David's Bridal. I loved helping women find their perfect wedding dress and plan their dream weddings. It felt like I was on the TV show "Say Yes To The Dress"!
If you could switch jobs with anyone in the world, who would it be? Why?
My background (before teaching) is in Musical Theater. I studied MT at USM and have performed at Maine State Music Theater. I think I wouldn't mind switching jobs with a Broadway star!

How do you spend your summer vacations?
I love running! I also love spending time with my husband and almost 2 year old. During the summer, we spend as much time as possible going to the beach and hiking :)

What does a typical day at MAMS look like for you?

I arrive a little early to get my lesson plans ready. I drink coffee and greet my awesome students. I love checking in with my advisees every day and learning new things about them. A typical ELA class consists of my students coming in, gathering their materials and sitting down for some silent reading to clear their minds. Then, we do a quick mini lesson to set the stage for the work that will be done that day. While students workshop, I float about the room and give praise and feedback... and I usually have to tell a few to stop talking and focus! I have meetings with my wonderful coworkers...they are the best. After motor break and lunch, I teach my lessons all over again. My typical day is fast paced, filled with interesting conversations and there is never a dull moment! I love that about my job.

What do you love about middle school?
My last two years were spent teaching high school, so middle school was a change for me. However, I've learned that there is so much to love about this age. The students are so eager to learn and curious about everything. They are still at the age where they want to gain my respect and admiration. One thing I love is how they always show you how much they care. Every time there is a holiday, my students shower me with cards and gifts. I never experienced that at the high school. I feel like MAMS has such a positive culture where kids are celebrated for who they are. I really love that about this middle school :)
