Name: Anne Obery

What is the strangest job that you’ve ever had?
Because of how strangely easy and fun it was, I would say my job in college in Orono on the UMaine Event Staff. I got paid to check the tickets to the student section at the hockey games, then just stand there and watch the game. I also got front row seats to watch the football, basketball, and baseball games, making sure no spectators went on the field/court. It was a pretty sweet gig.

If you could switch jobs with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Any of the hosts on Food Network shows that get to travel around the country eating all sorts of amazing food from unique restaurants!

If you had some free time, how would you spend it? OR How do you spend your summer vacations?
Reading a new mystery/thriller book outside, preferably on a sunny fall day that is chilly enough to snuggle up in a blanket with a cup of coffee or tea. I could spend hours like that!

What does a typical day at MAMS look like for you?
I get to school around 6:45 every morning so I have plenty of time to prepare for the day and get settled in. When the kids start rolling in at 7:30, we chat for a little bit during advisory, then classes start! In a typical school year, I would teach 4 math classes in my own classroom, plus a Target Time focused on even more math skills! This school year, I travel around our wing with my colorful cart to teach 3 math classes in 3 different classrooms each day.

What do you love about middle school?
I love looping with my students from 7th to 8th grade. When I meet my students at the beginning of 7th grade, they are still kids. When I send them off to high school at the end of 8th grade, they seem like young adults. I watch them grow and develop so much during the two years I get to work with them and I love being a part of that important period of growth. Middle schoolers know how to be silly and serious...they are a blast to be around all day!
